Applying for A Republic of Guyana Passport

 

RENEWING YOUR EXISTING PASSPORT

If you have an existing passport that was issued less than 14 years ago, this passport may be RENEWED for a further period, up to a maximum of 15 years. (see bottom of p4 of your passport for the issue date).

If your passport was issued more than 14 years ago, you would be required to file an application for a new passport.

Processing time for passport renewal = 7 days.(application form)

APPLYING FOR A NEW GUYANA PASSPORT

Guyana’s overseas missions have commenced the issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP), effective immediately. All Machine Readable Passports are issued in Guyana.

Generally, you are required to have a passport with at least 6 months validity in addition to the time that you plan to spend outside of Canada.

You may apply to replace your passport once it expires within the next ten (10) months or less.

The processing time is approximately twelve (12) weeks.

Emergency Travel

Anyone traveling on emergency or planning to travel outside of Canada in less than 12 weeks are advised to contact the Guyana Consulate immediately. 416-494-6040 ext. 24 or 25.

What is the process for applying for the MRP?

Step 1:

 Fill out an application form. Application forms can be uplifted from the Guyana Consulate or downloaded from the following websites:

Step 2:

The applicant must present himself/herself personally at the Consulate when submitting the application.

NOTE:

 a) Children applying under the age of eighteen (18) years must be accompanied by their parents. In the absence of one of the parents, consent must be given by the absent parent in the form of a notarized affidavit. Other guardians are required to present documents proving their legal guardianship. Only original documents are accepted. Parents and or guardians are required to present a passport of themselves.

b) Applicant signatures: Sign in the rectangular box located in the upper right of page (2). Do not exceed or touch the borders. Kindly re-sign below the rectangular box. Also pages (3) section 6.

What documents are needed?

1. An accurately completed application form.

2. An original Birth Certificate together with (if applicable):

Registered Deed Poll

Change of Name Certificate

Certificate of Descent

Naturalization or Registration Certificate

Marriage Certificate

Husband’s Birth Certificate

Affidavit of Identity

Decree Absolute Certificate

Certificate of Adoption

3. The previous passport

4. Cost: $95.00 Cdn. Payable in Cash or Money Order made payable to the Consulate General of Guyana

5. Two (2) colored passport size photographs. (SPECIFICATIONS: No larger than 45x35 mm, No smaller than 32x26 mm) and must have been taken within the last 6 months. The studio must stamp the date and "I certify that this is a true likeness of ………….. on the back of one (1) photograph.

Persons Accepted as Recommenders:

Certified Accountant

Business Manager

Doctor

Imam/Pandit/Priest

Lawyer/Notary Public/Justice of Peace

Pharmacist

Professional Engineer

Police Officer

School Principal

University Professor

- Section (7) of the application form must be completed and signed by the Recommender;

- The Recommender must know the applicant for at least two (2) years;

- The Recommender is required to endorse the reverse side of one (1) photograph with the words: "I certify that this is a true likeness of ……." and add his or her signature.

- The Recommender must place his/her official stamp and phone number on the application form

Guideline for Lost or Damaged Passports:

Damaged Passport:

Applicant is required to submit a notarized affidavit stating the circumstances how the passport was damaged, in addition to all of the above stated requirements for a MRP.

Lost Passport:

Requirements:

a) Applicant is required to report the loss to the nearest police station as soon as possible and obtain a copy of the report.

b) Submit a notarized affidavit stating the circumstances how the passport was lost.

c) Completed application form with all necessary requirements as stated for the MRP.

The cost to replace a damaged/lost passport is $195.00 Cdn. Cash or Money Order made payable to the Consulate General of Guyana.

Change of name

In the case of a woman whose name has been changed by marriage, the submission of the marriage certificate and her husband's birth certificate or his passport are necessary plus 1 passport size photograph. The fee for change of name is $40.00 Cdn.

NOTE: Only originals of documents are accepted.

Kindly note the following instructions if you are mailing your application form to the Consulate for passport renewal :

By Canada Post:

  1. purchase an express post envelope and a BLUE STICKER from the Post Office.            
  2. do not remove any portion of the waybill.  This is needed for tracking purposes.
  3. Address the envelope to yourself and send it to the Consulate's address: 505 Consumers Road, Suite 206, Willowdale, ON. M2J 4V8

By Courier: Kindly contact the Consulate for information


Emergency Travel Documents
Emergency travel documents are issued to persons without passport who have to travel urgently and only for emergency purposes. Such documents are not issued for persons travelling on vacation. Only valid for travel one way to Guyana.

Two (2) recent photographs, birth certificate, completed application form and fee of $40.00 Cdn. are required. The travel ticket or itinerary from the travel agent should be submitted to confirm the dates of travel.

P.S.  A PASSPORT /VISA IS REQUIRED TO RETURN TO CANADA.


Police Clearance
Applications for police clearance from Guyana can be obtained from the Consulate.
Requirements are:
  • Copy of Birth Certificate and Guyana Passport
  • Three (3) recent photographs
  • Finger prints taken at the International Fingerprinting Services, Tel.416 293 2030 or 416 293 1218
  • Completed form

Requirements listed above can be submitted by a relative or friend in Guyana on the applicant behalf. By this method, the police clearance can be obtained within a week by the authorised person. The fee is Guy$500.00.

If the applicant has no one in Guyana to submit the application, it may be submitted through the Guyana Consulate. In this case a fee of Canadian $10.00 must be paid in the form of an international money order payable to the Commissioner of Police. This method however takes longer, sometimes three to six months.
Certified copy of passport and or any other documents are done by the Consulate. However, the original copy has to be presented.



Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates
Applications for Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates are available at the Consulate. It is recommended that the completed application form be sent to a relative or friend who can submit it to the Registrar General's Office and collect the certificate in a few days. The fee is $30.00 Guyana Dollars.

Alternatively, if there is no one in Guyana to assist, the application can be processed through the Guyana Consulate. The fee is $10.00 Cdn. And takes approximately 6-12 months.

Notarisation of Legal Documents
The Consulate notarises legal documents such as powers of attorney, affidavits for use in Guyana. The fee is $30.00 Cdn per copy.
Documents must be prepared (typed and legible) before approaching the Consulate. The document should not be signed by anyone before coming to the Consulate. It has to be signed and witnessed at the Consulate. The person signing must submit a current passport or Guyana Identification Card as proof of I.D.

Witnessing of signatures for Banks in Guyana
The Consulate witnesses signature/s for banks transactions in Guyana. The person conducting the transaction must bring a current passport as proof of identification. The consulate will not witness any signature if a valid passport(only ID acceptable) is not presented.

Pension and Life Certificates
Life certificates are notarised free of charge for pensioners who are receiving their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) pensions, Government service or Sugar estate pensions. The pensioner must bring their passports or other photo identification. Forms are available at the Consulate.
These pensions are not remitted overseas directly by NIS or Government but are paid in Guyana to a bank account or to an authorised person. The pensioner is responsible for transferring the funds from Guyana.
Note: Government Old Age pension is not paid to pensioners who do not reside in Guyana.
